Our History

 From a wheelchair user’s idea to a growing pilot. 

 

  • 2021 — Idea originated from a wheelchair user 
  • 2022 — Temple University Senior UX Design Project
  • 2023 — Prototype + prior-art search (Villanova Law IP Clinic)
  • 2024–25 — Iteration with hospitals in Ireland & the US

Tara Cunningham

Disability inclusion consultant, author, professor


Tara Cunningham is a disability-inclusion specialist, social entrepreneur, and co-inventor of The Daisy. She has spent more than two decades designing practical, dignity-focused solutions alongside disabled people, carers, and global organizations. Tara is currently completing her PhD, building on her work in inclusive design and neuroinclusion, and serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor committed to creating accessible learning and working environments. Her leadership at The Daisy reflects her lifelong dedication to improving autonomy, comfort, and sustainability in everyday life.

Dr. Thomas Edwards

Dr. Thomas Edwards is a professor, author, and industry leader in user-centered engineering and innovation. With extensive experience guiding complex design projects, he brings deep expertise in accessible product development and practical solutions that improve daily life for people with mobility challenges. As part of The Daisy team, Dr. Edwards supports rigorous testing, evidence-driven design, and the continual refinement of a product built to enhance dignity, comfort, and environmental responsibility. 

Jerome Lawrence

Author and acclaimed artist.


Jerome Lawrence, Cheri's partner, is an acclaimed artist whose work has been closely connected with President Jimmy Carter and The Carter Center for many years. His paintings have raised significant funds through The Carter Center’s fundraising auctions, and three of his works are held in Rosalynn Carter’s personal collection. Jerome’s book, Finding Life Lessons in Art—featuring a foreword by Rosalynn Carter—shares how creating art helped him navigate illness and find meaning, prompting national attention through interviews, documentaries, and panel discussions. His career reflects a deep commitment to using art to heal, uplift, and contribute to the public good. 

Cheri Mitchell

Retired advocate from the Georgia Advocacy Office 


Cheri Mitchell is a respected self-advocate whose lived experience has shaped the design and purpose of The Daisy from its earliest stages. Her insights into the daily realities of mobility challenges bring essential clarity and honesty to the product development process, ensuring that every feature reflects real-world needs. Cheri’s leadership and voice keep The Daisy grounded in dignity, practicality, and user-driven innovation.

Engineer, user-centered design, inventor


Cybil Seneker is an engineer and user-centered design expert whose technical leadership has guided The Daisy from concept to prototype. With a strong focus on accessibility, ergonomics, and practical functionality, Cybil ensures that every design decision is grounded in real user needs and environmental responsibility. Her commitment to thoughtful, inclusive engineering plays a central role in creating a product that enhances comfort, independence, and sustainability.
